Nevis, Anne and Charles

(born c. 1700 - died after 1717)

Local connection

Both were baptised at St Mary’s church, Lewisham.

Anne and Charles were baptised on the same day, 5 November 1717.

They were both described as 'black adult moor’, but only Charles had a surname, 'Nevis’, possibly suggesting he originated from the West Indian Island that bears the same name.

Neither are identified as a servant or ‘belonging’ to anyone and other than being adults we do not know their age. We can also only guess about Charles’ origins and what their relationship might be, if any.
