Mumford

Mumford information, is mostly from census returns.
There were at least three generations of Peter Mumfords, Peter 1 born 1801. Peter 2 born c.1840, and Peter 3 born c.1872.

Peter 1 and his brother Samuel (born 1791) were corn merchants at Newcastle Street, Strand from 1832 or earlier. They also worked the Catford Bridge mill c.1837 to 1848, when they moved to Deptford Creek. In the early years Samuel was the brother generally resident at or near the mills, while Peter remained in Newcastle Street. He appears to have moved to Deptford in the 1850s, and probably died in the early 1880s.

Peter Mumford and Sons continued to work the Royal Flour Mills at 90 Albert Embankment until c.1930, when a firm called Bulstrode, Pimm, & Co. took the mills over.

Peter Muimford later moved to Foxgrove House, Beckenham in the present London Borough of Bromley.
