Cuffey, John

(born c. 1719 - died after 1737)

Local connection
Baptised at St Margaret’s church, Lee.

When he is baptised at St Margaret’s, Lee on 11 July 1737 John Cuffey is described as 'a Negro manservant of Mr Collett’s’.

We do not know John’s age or origin but a Mrs Mary Collett is buried at St Margaret’s, Lee on 21 April 1754 and she is described as being of Greenwich. It is possible that Cuffey worked for this family in Greenwich.
