News cuttings collection
There are three large collections of cuttings:

  • The Ashford collection of news cuttings and other ephemera relating to Deptford: 22 volumes, mainly 1830–1870 but including some earlier items. These are arranged chronologically. They cover Deptford and the surrounding area. They are on closed access, so you are advised to make an appointment to see them.
  • The news cuttings from the Baker collection (see Introduction) which cover the period c.1933 – 1961, and are arranged topographically. They cover Lewisham, Deptford and the surrounding area. These are on open access.
  • Cuttings taken by reference and later by local history centre staff, c1925–1982 (most entries after 1960). These are arranged topographically. They cover Deptford, after 1965, and Lewisham. These are on open access.

Present day news cuttings and ephemeral material are filed in subject files. These are on open access.
