Books and pamphlets on the borough and its history, and on organisations and individuals connected with the borough.

Census returns every 10 years from 1841 to 1901 (on microfilm). These record who was living at each address in the borough, with their ages, occupations and birthplaces. All are indexed by street, and some by name. 1841 -1911 is on Ancestry.Com but the 1911 census is not indexed at present.

Street directories, listing private and commercial occupiers, late 19th and early 20th centuries (very few for Deptford).

Electoral Registers

Local History Library material is listed on the general library catalogue. This material is for reference only and cannot be borrowed, but photocopies can nearly always be made. We cannot look up information for you, but will be happy to give advice on what is available.

Maps: Ordnance Survey maps of the whole borough in 1863, 1893, 1916, c.1935, c.1950 and recent editions. Also estate maps of areas within the borough from 1592, and printed maps of the London area from 1745.

Prints and photographsof views within the borough from the mid-19th century to the present. The late 19th and early 20th centuries are particularly well represented. There are fewer photographs for Deptford than for Lewisham.
